Don’t you remember as a kid wishing you could fly? There is something magnificant about seeing birds in flight gliding down for a landing, or a glider flying overhead, tipping their wing to say hello and actually seeing their face!

On a recent aviation photoshoot of the hawkerbeechcraftkingair, nature provided so many incredible backdrops to photograph the airplanes. You develop quite an appreciation for the enginuity and sophicitication of the planes. They glide so effortlessly through the sky, but having been inside the cockpit many times, I know how complex the instrumentation is to allow this plane to function at such extreme levels. It is easy to get lost in the flight and yet, it’s connecting with my subject that allows me to express the beauty of the subject.

Aviation Photography is truly in the eye of the beholder.

We have all seen the typical executive portrait where the individual is in the “line up” or sitting in front of a backdrop, or even sitting behind their desk. Believe me, it’s boring for them, for me, and the intended audience.

Hepler Photography has had the opportunity to work on some of the most influential companies’ Annual Reports. We have also had the privilege to work with some fantastic agencies that feel the way we do about executive portraits; the portraits should convey who the executive is as a person and their role with their company.

Hepler Photography insures that the experience of getting their photograph taken is a pleasant experience, is respectful of their busy schedule and is uniquely them.

Garmin International is known for it’s humorous ad campaigns, especially at Christmas. The point of advertising is to have your product stand out from the rest. The oh so talented creatives at Garmin got those wheels a turnin’(no pun intended) and concepted Santa’s wild side ride!

You know the ol’ saying “A bad day of fishing is still better than a good day at work”, this is the best of both worlds! On a recent campaign for Garmin International, I photographed Scott Martin doing what he does best; finessing the line to catch yet another hog.

Outdoor photography stirs the soul and provides such inspiration for me. Preproduction for such shoots requires anticipating the unexpected and at the same time, unlimited opportunites. Okay…..so I’m like a kid in a candy store when I’m involved in outdoor/sport/fishing/hunting photoshoots, notice I didn’t say work, cause it’s all GOOD to me!

Three-fourths of the Earth’s surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.~Chuck Clark

The U.S. Postal Service has nothin’ on the American grower. They are up before the sun and still in the field when Mr. Moon clocks in. Hepler Photography recently completed a photoshoot of a silage harvest. Hepler photography produces all of their photoshoots. A great deal of production goes into a harvest shoot and we are very fortunate to have an incredible network of growers to work with throughout the midwest. The growers and their staff go above and beyond to work with schedules, weather delays, and other facets of the overall production. Agriculture Photography is really quite interesting because it is everchanging. The industry is constantly researching new and improved ways to improve yield, plant, and harvest. Technology in the implements and irrigation is so advanced to the average person’s idea of what is involved in farming. So the next time you see a grower out in their field (lucky you, that means you took the back road) remember, they wrote the book on jack of all trades:mechanic, expert in agriculture, businessman, manager, weatherman, broker………….

I never tire of an aerial view. Everytime I feel like a kid playing I spy, so much to see! I have even developed a stomach of steel (no, I did not say abs of steel) to handle the quick, swift banks to get into position for just the right image. Working with pilots that have experience in flying for aerial photography is important in getting those images. Aerial Photography requires patience in the production department. There are many factors to consider from equipment, crew, locations, gps, weather, etc, etc, etc…..

My selection of a pilot is the same criteria I have for a surgeon if I ever need one; bring your A game, no wild parties the night before (no double or blurred vision please) and its okay if you are the cockiest rooster in the henhouse ’cause I’d like to land with both feet.

My aerial projects have provided for many laughs and never to be forgotten adventures. I have met some amazing pilots from vietnam vets that flew jets down into canyons to pilots that have taxied many a who’s who.

Today’s project, windturbines hopefully a soon to be common sight throughout our country.

I know I heard them say in the production meeting that we were going to be photographing lots of girls with big ta-tas…..not what I had in mind!

All kidding aside, seeing a dairy farm in operations from sunup to sundown is quite impressive. People in dairy and agriculture are some of the hardest working individuals I have ever met. It doesn’t matter if there is a snow blizzard or an emergency the show must go on!

You might be thinking, okay so you milk a few dairy cows in the morning, wrong! Try 1,000+ cows three times a day. In addition to attending to the milking of cows, they have to constantly monitor the gustation of expecting cows, seperate them to the birthing barn and of course assist in the care of the newborn calves. As if that isn’t enough to fill their work day, this farm is very particular about what they feed their cows so they plant and harvest their own silage.

Smile ladies, cause you’re gettin’ a makeover! Cleaning a 700lb+ cow and getting her to not wander off and step into poo again is sort of like changing a diaper on a 12 month old that has learned to run!

Be sure to visit HEPLER PHOTOGRAPHY’S recent images from down on the farm on our website heplerphoto.com and like us on Facebook!
